Frequently Asked Questions

Why the name checkinsooner.com? What's a Sooner?

During the Oklahoma Land Run of the 1800s, sections of land would be marked off with stakes in the ground. Settlers wanting to claim the land would all line up at a starting station in town and wait for the cannon's boom to ride their horses into the fields and place their mark on the best pieces of land and claim it as their own. These people were called "Boomers". Of course, some people just did not like waiting in line and waiting for a cannon to go off, so they ran out into the fields the night before and claimed the best land early. By the time the Boomers got to these sections of land, they found it already taken. These early birds were called "Sooners". When you use checkinsooner.com, you are living a little piece of Sooner Spirit, airport style.

Should I check in here or direct with the airline?

It is totally up to you. If you use this site there nothing preventing you from also using the airlines checkin site; you can use both. Airlines typically let you reprint a boarding pass as many times as you need. If you do not want to worry about being at a computer at a specific time, and would like your boarding pass secured early and delivered by email and want to check in for your flight online, by all means use this service.

What is the difference between a guest checkin and an account holder's services?

The basic checkin service is the same for both. That is, once checkinsooner.com has your flight information, our servers will obtain your boarding pass and email it to you as soon as it is available from the airline.

Account holders have access to a variety of additional tools which include:

  • The ability to review all of a user's future flights with pending checkins.
  • The ability to delete or update a future checkin request.
  • A feature on American, Continental, United and Delta to continually poll the airline for a better seat that your currently assigned seat (within the same class of service) and automatically switch to a better seat if it becomes available. (currently in beta)

Please note, as a guest only 1 active checkin request is allowed at any one time.

What does it cost to use your service?

There is no charge to try out checkinsooner.com as a guest and get boarding passes.

A guest can only have one checkin request in the system at any one time. A paid membership allows an unlimited number of checkin requests on all covered airlines while your account is in good standing.

Seat Polling is not available to guests; a checkinsooner.com account is required.

- A 10 day membership to the site, sufficient to cover checkins and/or seat polling for one upcoming trip (outbound and return) costs $10.
- An annual membership on this site, good to cover all checkin requests for a full year plus access to all other checkinsooner.com tools is $79.

You can sign up for a 10-day or 1-year membership here

What is your refund policy?

If successful checkins have processed out of your account, we refund the membership fees less $5 for each successful checkin using our proxy server technology.

What if my flight changes after I put in my checkin order?

Log into your account, choose the "update/delete a pending checkin request" option, and push the update button next to the record locator you want to update. You can only update records as a signed in member, not as a guest.

How does this handle round trip tickets? Will I be checked in for both the outgoing and return flights?

Yes. If your ticket is round trip and you submit a checkin request, checkinsooner checks in both the outgoing and return flight and emails you a boarding pass each time.

What if my checkinsooner.com account expires before my actual travel date?

Once the system gets your checkin request, you will be checked in and a boarding pass emailed to you regardless if your account is in good standing or expired at the actual date of travel. The account should be up and active on the date you enter the request, not necessarily on the day you travel. You will receive a checkin confirmation email with each checkin request you order.

Once I pay for an account can I choose my own password?

Yes.

What kind of Email client do I have to have to receive the boarding pass?

If you are using an html capable email client (most do, including Microsoft Outlook, yahoo mail, hotmail, and gmail) then your boarding pass is emailed to you 24 hours before your flight. Just print and go! If your email client is text only you will get an email confirming your boarding group and number. AOL email can not handle html email very well, so boarding passes sent there are often hard to read and need to be reprinted. Just take the information to the ticket agent and they will re-print your boarding pass. Your boarding group and standby preferences are secured by checkinsooner.com.
